This reminds me exactly of the old storehouse that lies on the banks of the Aare river here in Solothurn. In fact, at first glance, I was sure it was the place.

I love this artist, Kawasi Hasui, as he created for foreign markets. The "romance" of the orient type of selling point. His publisher, Watanabe, objected to his early attempts to include power poles and other incongruous elements into what are essentially traditional imagery. Despite eliminating those elements, he still broke stylistically with tradition in subtle and startling ways.
So actually this is an image from Japan in the 1920's.
